bdtronic wins Global Awards at CWIEME 2022

bdtronic wins two Global awards at the CWIEME exhibition, the world's largest coil winding, transformer, electric motor, generator and e-mobility exhibition & conference. Mr. Carlo Motta was selected as "Engineer of the year" and the "Excellence Award" was given to bdtronic for the further development of the B8300 impregnation plant. The judging panel consists of well-respected and highly knowledgeable industry experts, thereof several representatives from leading OEMs and TIER1.

“I would like to thank all my colleagues who have contributed to this achievement, but also those who contribute to the success of the company every day. This award is a very big and important success for our company, which we can all be really proud of”, says Patrick Vandenrhijn, CEO of bdtronic.

The CWIEME “Excellence award” rewards a product that delivers both quality and innovation, demanding all-round excellence in all aspects of research, development, design and real-world application. This year, bdtronic’s B8300 trickle impregnation series machine for 800-Volt hairpin stators was awarded in this category. Already in 2018, bdtronic won the global award for the product of the year with this impregnation machine. Recently, there is a strong demand and need for high life time performance as well as high efficient 48-Volt, 400-Volt and 800-Volt e-drive platforms. This means that high partial discharge interception voltage (PDIV) resistance values and high filling grades are required when impregnating especially 800-Volt hairpin stators. bdtronic has designed and improved their trickle impregnation series machine B8300 especially for this demanding requirements.

bdtronic’s Carlo Motta is the world’s most experienced engineer in the field of impregnation of electric motors and well known at all electric car companies and Tier 1 worldwide. In 1987 Carlo Motta started his professional career at Mazzali Systems in Italy. He was responsible for the development of processes for the impregnation of electric motors for industrial applications. At that time he started to develop the trickle impregnation process with the idea to reduce the consumption of resin compared to at that time state-of-the art dipping process in order to make impregnation processes faster, controllable (process monitoring), less expensive and to contribute to environmental protection by reducing chemical waste.

In 2008 bdtronic took over Mazzali Systems as well as Carlo Motta with his outstanding experience in impregnation technologies with the target to develop machine and process solutions for the electrification of cars since already at that time bdtronic recognized that the future of mobility will be electric. The company was able to combine Mazalli's years of experience in heating technology with bdtronic's expertise in processing reactive resins. This connection is unique in the market and enables the company to build a machine that ensures both highest quality requirements and high production volumes.

Over the years, Carlo Motta and his team designed the world’s biggest and fastest impregnation machine with a cycle time of 45 seconds per part and 500.000 parts per year. Due to the increasing requirements (higher efficiency) in the automotive industry he improved the existing series trickle machine and brought it to the next technology level for the impregnation of 800-Volt stators which will be the future in electrical drives for automotive.

Sealing Cell Module Controllers Using the CIPG Process

Battery sensors play a crucial role in controlling and managing the performance and safety of electric vehicle batteries. They monitor parameters such as temperature, voltage, and current, and report this information to the battery management system (BMS), which controls and monitors the battery's charging and discharging processes.
